# Welcome to J Craft ## A Passion, a Heritage, a Privilege The essence of boating is the pursuit of passion. As with all matters of the heart, this extraordinary pursuit is uniquely individual and forms the core of the J Craft DNA. Seamlessly blending cutting edge technology with timeless styling, each J Craft empowers the individual to live in the moment and experience pure boating pleasure. J Craft embodies a love for life and an appreciation of the importance of following one's passions. Designed for discerning individuals, each J Craft is an extension of a distinctive lifestyle, where substance and style are uncompromised. J Craft was born from a passion for classic styling and boat building heritage. The first J Craft, the Cabrio Cruiser, was built in Gotland in 1999. Since then, innovation and experimentation have served to define each custom J Craft build. In 2009, J Craft pushed the boundaries of motor cruiser hull design and introduced the 42-foot Torpedo, equipped with the cutting edge Volvo IPS pod drive system. Now in its 23rd year, J Craft continues to design and hand-craft exquisite bespoke cruisers that further the passion for the ultimate classic boating experience. J Craft combines vintage style and glamour with cutting edge technology, power and contemporary convenience: a finely balanced blend of old and new, where form and function are of equal importance. Join us for the beautiful journey and experience a little of la Dolce Vita! J Craft was covered extensively by our friends from the press. Please check the Press section above. --- ## Our Philosophy The Torpedo is built on the founding principles of passion and grace, marrying beautiful materials, exquisitely engineered details, distinctive design and discreet state-of-the-art technology. Combined with exhilarating performance, the Torpedo elicits an emotional response, whether enjoying relaxation at anchor or scything through waves at close to 50 knots. This emotion is tangible; it can be seen in the faces of those that experience it. It can be heard in the enthusiasm of those that own it. It is demonstrated in the actions of those that design and build it. Taking ownership of a custom Torpedo is to become part of the [J Craft family](https://j-craftboats.com/company). In a very real sense, every boat is born out of the passions of a small, dedicated group of people who have nursed each boat from its conception to its glorious present. A new owner becomes part of the J Craft story – part of something far greater than the sum of its parts. It is around these cornerstones that we build the exclusive J Craft brand of retro-style day boats [built](https://j-craftboats.com/craftsmanship) for those with a passion for excellence. --- ## Design J Craft boats are designed to surpass the expectations of their owners, providing state-of-the-art technology with eco-conscious production and singular style. J Craft seamlessly fuses classic style with modern power and convenience. The result is a boat that can perform in any capacity: chase boat, tender or well-appointed day boat. The J Craft Torpedo is a chic and capable, entirely hand built boat with 8,000+ man hours going into each one. The small team is quality driven and anything less than perfect is never good enough. At J Craft, it's all about the detail. The touch of the leather, the weight of the switch, the hinge action – simple things, imperceptible to most, but that subliminally add to the pleasure of owning a Torpedo. The cultivated, eco-friendly mahogany deck is lacquered and varnished eighteen times for a peerless finish as well as incredible strength and durability. As well as looking beautiful, it means that the Torpedo can withstand the harshest of the elements while still retaining her film star good looks. No two J Craft Torpedos are ever the same. The unique and individual nature of the wood veneers alone guarantees this fact. It is also true to say that each boat that leaves the J Craft manufacturing facility in Gotland is a unique expression of an individual, of their desire to stand out, to be seen. --- ## Viking DNA: Beauty(ful) Ability The J Craft Torpedo is a **custom wooden boat** of two characters. It is luxurious and jewel-like, at home on lakes, the inshore waters of the Hamptons, or the 'must be seen at' jetties along the Riviera. However, its Swedish roots endow the Torpedo with tremendous sea-going ability. This is a powerful boat that has been designed and built to master the high seas and rough conditions of Europe's northernmost waters. The Torpedo is regularly taken across the Mediterranean in conditions that other luxury tenders or day boats could not contemplate. Torpedos have crossed the South China Sea, the Baltic Sea and the Mediterranean on a regular basis. Few luxury brands can realistically lay claim to such substance behind their name. For J Craft though, function is of equal importance to form. The J Craft Torpedo is one of the most able boats on the market, aided in no small part by its Volvo Penta IPS drives. Designed in conjunction with the Torpedo, the pod-mounted, forward-facing propellers make maneuvering easy, safe and comfortable. But no matter its raw ability, power and performance, a trip on the Torpedo is always calm, elegant and blissful. Ordering a J Craft is more akin to commissioning a piece of art than a boat and the J Craft design team will be happy to guide you on this journey. From a myriad of optional extras, owners are invited to go that extra mile in order to create something truly unique to them. The result is a motor launch that is both chic and capable; equally at home navigating choppy waters or moored on the world's most glamorous jetties. The J Craft's classic styling and turn of pace are guaranteed to turn heads wherever she goes. --- ## Company Swedish boat building heritage dictates solid construction and a meticulous approach to craftsmanship and J Craft carries these fine traditions into the 21st century. --- ## Where Tradition Meets Performance Sweden boasts a rich seafaring heritage spanning 1,000 years, from Viking long boats to the modern day J Craft. This rich history has seen mighty navies, merchant armadas and a revolution in naval architecture with the publication of Architectura Navalis in 1755 by Fredrik Henrik. For centuries, Sweden's harsh climate and unique geography has driven local craftsmen to construct robust, manoeuvrable boats that can withstand the punishing elements of the far north. The island of Gotland in the middle of the Baltic Sea has for generations been the home and the heart of Swedish boat building. It is here, on Gotland, that J Craft continues to build boats in this same tradition. --- ## Craftsmanship Swedish boat building heritage dictates solid construction and a meticulous approach to craftsmanship and J Craft carries these fine traditions into the 21st century. Hand-built by Swedish craftsmen in J Craft's Gotland manufacturing facility, each boat is built with unrivaled care and attention, slowly coming together over the course of almost 1 year. It is often a painstaking process, not possible without the passion, skill, and dedication of those involved in the build. --- ### Cutting-edge Technology Equally as important as the individual skill of the craftsman is the quality of the materials and the technology used in every **J Craft**. Fine leathers, polished metals, and exquisite fabrics from the world's best designers are used to create wonderfully tactile environments. Perhaps the best example of this dedication to using only the best is the sustainably sourced mahogany deck. It is sanded by hand and then lacquered 18 times for the perfect combination of durability and finish. --- ### 8000+ (Wo)man Hours Every one of our [Torpedo yachts](https://j-craftboats.com/torpedo) is built by our team of Swedish masterbuilders at our home in Visby, on the island of Gotland, Sweden. Each Torpedo takes over 8,000+ (wo)man hours to build. We build our Torpedos from the bottom up with well over 95% of the value added of a Torpedo created in Sweden. When we say Made in Sweden we mean "made" and not just "assembled", a very significant differentiator between us and almost everyone else in our segment who make the component parts and modules elsewhere and only assemble these modules at their home base. This way we ensure complete quality control and you can trace every part of the Torpedo to the individual J Craft masterbuilder who built it! --- ### Beautiful & Exclusive As exclusive as she is beautiful, the J Craft yacht is among the rarest vessels to be encountered on the water. Only 27 J Crafts are in existence today, each takes one year - or some 8,000+ (wo)man hours to build - and each [Torpedo](https://j-craftboats.com/torpedo) is carefully handcrafted for a discerning owner who appreciates art, craftsmanship and the one-of-a-kind. --- ## Who Are Our Owners? Who is a typical J Craft owner? The answer is there isn't one. However, there tend to be a number of common traits: - Independently wealthy - Lust for life and value their time - Appreciate the finer things in life and are keen to share - Buy into an exclusive club and socialize within it - Relaxed, but demanding of quality and service J Craft strives to offer more than just a product, but rather an ongoing, bespoke service for our owners. --- ## Our Heritage Sweden boasts a rich seafaring heritage spanning 1,000 years, from Viking long boats to the modern day [J Craft](https://j-craftboats.com/). This rich history has seen mighty navies, merchant armadas and a revolution in naval architecture with the publication of Architectura Navalis Mercatoria in 1768 by Fredrik Henrik af Chapman (1721-1808), a naval architect and vice-admiral in the Swedish navy. --- ## Our Identity: Truly Swedish Sweden is recognised the world over as a centre for leading-edge design – often highly innovative with a unique take on everyday objects. As well as stylish design, Sweden boasts a reputation for cutting edge technology, quality, and durability, and the many internationally recognised Swedish brands are testament to this. **J Craft** exists amongst these brands, a major force in Sweden's modern economy and, naturally, partner to many other major Swedish companies such as [Volvo Penta](https://www.volvopenta.com/). Volvo Penta developed the state of the art IPS drive system in conjunction with J Craft, both brands working together to refine the system and turn it into the revolutionary technology that it is today. --- ## Our Home: The Island of Gotland For centuries, Gotland's harsh climate and unique geography has driven local craftsmen to construct robust, manoeuvrable boats that can withstand the punishing elements of the far north. The island of Gotland in the middle of the Baltic Sea has for generations been the home and the heart of [Swedish boat building](https://j-craftboats.com/). It is here, on Gotland, that J Craft continues to build boats in this same tradition. --- ## Lifestyle Barefoot luxury, laid-back chic. The J Craft lifestyle is one of relaxation and enjoyment. A simple approach to life's finer things. J Craft yachts are spotted at the most glamorous locales around the world. The Torpedo's singular style does not follow trends and fads; she charts her own course, enticing onlookers along the way. ### Effortlessly Chic [J Craft](https://j-craftboats.com/) exists in a world of fashion and celebrity and is as much a part of events such as the [Cannes Film Festival](https://www.festival-cannes.com/en/) and [Monaco Formula One Grand Prix](https://www.formula1.com/en/racing/2024/monaco) as it is the world's major yacht shows. J Craft exudes barefoot luxury, where the best things in life exist alongside a relaxed attitude and laid-back cool. ### Design Head-turning retro styling evokes the feeling of being one with the sea, and each J Craft yacht serves as an exquisite accessory to her environs. [Handcrafted](https://j-craftboats.com/craftsmanship) of a fiberglass hull with mahogany veneers, each curve is hand-molded, each strip hand-finished for durability and finish. ### A Bespoke Approach The Torpedo is an infinitely tailorable vessel, from powertrains to onboard technology and down to the smallest detail. Past customers have specified unique colours and materials. Some have, in conjunction with our team, designed their own luggage sets, individual clothing, deck plans, matching materials and leathers to their cars and designed tailored picnic baskets. The Torpedo is also available in the R and RS Pack guise, featuring the bigger engines – twin IPS600s/IPS650s – as well as a leather Nardi steering wheel, leather accent to the dashboard and a rose polished stainless steel instrument panel. The only real limit is that of the customer's imagination. ### The Rolls Royce of Boats The Torpedo differentiates itself through J Craft's royal connection, the absolute volume of production, as well as through J Craft's very exclusive client profile. The Torpedo sets itself further apart through its impeccable build quality as it is [hand-built](https://j-craftboats.com/craftsmanship) from the bottom up, with over 8,000 Swedish (wo)man-hours going into each Torpedo. We only utilize the finest component parts and latest technology with well over 95% of the Torpedo value-added "Made in Sweden". This is a significant differentiation between J Craft and most other brands in its segment who mostly only assemble their boats, with components actually "made" in other countries. This fact is important to us as we are proud of the fact that each client can trace each component of their Torpedo to one of our Swedish masterbuilder who built it. J Craft is often referred to as the Rolls Royce of the Sea, as like its land based counterpart the J Craft Torpedo is truly built for the FEW, but appreciated by the MANY. Through J Craft's historic relationship with Rolls Royce Motor Cars, clients who wish to have their J Craft Torpedo match their Rolls-Royce motor car are able to do so, as the two brands have partnered on a unique collaboration to create a bespoke pairing of a Torpedo RS and a Phantom Drophead Coupe with the pair perfectly matched, down to the finest detail. Flawlessly colour-matched paintwork, interior fabrics and detailing will call the duo out as a pair. Other features include a satin finish metal of the bonnet, the innovative Z-box humidor, and the incredible 21st century picnic box that can be transported from car to boat and provide for glamorous outdoor feasting for four people. ### Head-turning Features As with so much in life, enjoyment is often found in the little details and [J Craft](https://j-craftboats.com/) is no exception. From the sumptuous leathers and handcrafted cabinetry, to the genuine Nardi steering wheel and gorgeous fabrics, joy is derived from the tactility of the vessel and the understanding that, to J Craft, the little things count. J Craft works closely with each client to ensure that every J Craft is tailored to their exact requirements. The Torpedo is an infinitely tailorable vessel — from powertrains to on board technology, to the smallest customised detail. From unique colours and materials, bespoke luggage and 2,000-watt music systems to designs requiring significant structural modifications, with a J Craft, the only limit is that of the client's imagination. ### A Rich Choice of Colours The [J Craft Torpedo](https://j-craftboats.com/torpedo) is available in 13 hull colours and 10 interior colours, each of which gives the Torpedo a different character. These can be enhanced with options such as two-tone colour schemes, seat piping, and diamond stitching. The J Craft design team is also happy to discuss bespoke options, which in the past have included the use of fabrics from both Loro Piana and Ralph Lauren. The standard hull colour is white (gel coat finish). However, there are a number of optional colours and the hull can also be given the Bespoke treatment. For those that prefer the all-wood look, the topsides can be specified in lacquered mahogany. --- ## Our Owners J Craft is a unique brand that has evolved through word of mouth, with one owner's appreciation and enthusiasm passing on to the next.
